Lesson 2

Chapter 1 - Lesson 2: "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled."

I. Jesus' Command Concerning Troubled Hearts

A. Jesus spoke these words on the night before His crucifixion. 
B. His statement was not a suggestion but a command. 
C. Believers are instructed not to allow their hearts to become troubled.

II. The Command Was Given During a Time of Great Trial 

A. Jesus was not speaking during a season of peace and prosperity. 
B. The disciples were about to face one of the greatest trials of their lives. 
C. They would witness the arrest, crucifixion, and apparent defeat of Jesus. 
D. They would not fully understand God's plan during that difficult time. 

III. Believers Are Responsible for Their Emotional Responses 

A. Many people believe they are responsible for their emotions only when life is going well. 
B. During severe difficulties, people often think they have no control over their feelings. 
C. Jesus' command reveals that believers have a responsibility regarding their emotional condition. 

IV. God's Commands Reveal Our Ability Through Him 

A. Jesus would not command something impossible to obey. 
B. The disciples had the ability to keep their hearts from being troubled. 
C. Although they failed, Jesus forgave, comforted, and restored them. 
D. God's best was for them to trust Him and remain at peace. 

V. Rejecting the Lie of Emotional Helplessness 

A. Victory over emotions begins by rejecting the belief that we have no control over them. 
B. Emotions are not merely uncontrollable reactions. 
C. Human beings are not governed solely by circumstances. 
D. We possess God-given authority and the power of choice. 

VI. Created in God's Image With the Power to Choose

A. God created mankind with the ability to make choices. 
B. We can choose life, faith, trust, and obedience. 
C. Our emotions do not have to rule us.

VII. Exercising Authority Over Emotions Through Christ 

A. Believers have authority through Jesus Christ. 
B. We are called to walk in that authority daily. 
C. Feelings should be submitted to God's truth rather than circumstances. 
D. Emotional stability comes from trusting the Lord and choosing His perspective.

Jesus commands believers not to allow their hearts to be troubled, even in the midst of severe trials. Because we are created in God's image and have the power of choice, we can exercise our authority through Christ to govern our emotions, trust God, and walk in peace rather than being controlled by circumstances.
